The problem with a pin brush is never the brushing. It is the minute afterward, picking a mat of hair out of the pins with your fingers.
The pins on this one retract into the head. Press the button, they pull back, the whole collected mat lifts off in one piece and goes in the bin. Then they come back out and you carry on.
The pins are bent at the tip, so they pull loose undercoat without dragging on skin. Short-haired or long-haired, it is the same motion.

Care
After each use
Press the release, lift the mat of hair off, and it is clean. No picking at the pins.
Deeper clean
Wipe the head with a damp cloth and let it dry fully before the next use.
What to avoid
Don't put it in the dishwasher. Heat warps the retraction mechanism.
