A coat for the walk before the house wakes up.

Quilted in channels, so the warmth sits flat against the body instead of ballooning out from it. The collar stands on its own. That is the part that matters when the wind comes straight down the street.

Fleece through the whole inside. It goes on over the head and snaps closed along the front, which means no one is threading a sleepy leg through a sleeve at six in the morning.

A D-ring sits at the back. The leash runs over the coat rather than under it, and the collar stays where you put it.

Measure the chest, not the dogBreed is a poor guide here. Run a tape around the widest part of the chest, just behind the front legs, and read the table below. If the number falls between two sizes, take the larger one ā€” this is cut close through the shoulder.

Living with it

Getting it on

Over the head first, then the front legs, then the snaps. Most dogs work it out by the third morning and stand still for it.

Fit at the shoulder

It should sit close enough that it does not rotate when the dog runs. If it slides around the body, it is a size too large.
