How to choose a pet bed

A bed gets used if it sits in the room where you are. That is most of the decision. The rest is size, and what it is made of.

Size

Measure your animal asleep rather than standing — stretched out, not curled. Le Château Canin comes in four sizes for that reason. A bolster with a raised rim suits a dog that rests its head on something; an open nest suits one that sprawls. Cats generally want the opposite of what a dog wants: enclosure, and a view of the door.

Material

Bouclé, wool, braided rope and leather each age differently. Bouclé and wool hold warmth and hide wear well. Braided rope keeps its shape under weight, which is why the rim on the Château holds up. Leather wipes clean and softens with use rather than degrading.

Color, and the room
