A cup that pours, and then takes back what it poured.

Most travel bottles waste water. You fill the cup, the dog drinks half, and the rest goes into the grass. This one twists the other way and the water runs back into the tank.

The cup is the cap. Twist once and the valve opens. Hold it level and it fills. Twist back and it drains. Nothing unclips, nothing gets carried separately, nothing has to be set down on a trail and picked up again.

Under the water tank there is a second chamber, sealed off from it. A hundred and eighty millilitres — a meal for a small dog, or a long afternoon of biscuits for a larger one.

On the materialThis is plastic, and it is meant to be. It is the piece that lives in the bottom of a bag and gets dropped on granite. Stone does not survive that, and a stone flask is an idea that does not survive being carried. Different job, different material.

Care

Washing

Both chambers open fully. Rinse in warm water with mild soap and let them air dry apart, not stacked. Water left sitting between the two is the one thing worth avoiding.

The valve

Twist it through its full range once a week with the bottle empty. It keeps the seal from taking a set, which is what makes these things start to drip.

Carrying food

Dry food only in the lower chamber. It is sealed against the water above it, not against a bag left in a hot car.

I did not want to make this. I wanted a small stone flask, which is a beautiful idea right up until you have to carry it four miles. So I made the useful thing instead and kept it plain. It goes in the bag. It works. That is the whole of it.
