Rope needs watchingEvery rope toy frays, and long strands are the thing to be careful about — swallowed rope does not pass the way food does. Trim loose ends as they appear and retire it once the shank is coming undone. Rope is a supervised toy, not a leave-out one.

Using it
Washing
Hand wash in warm water and let it dry all the way through before it goes back into rotation. Rope holds damp in the core long after the outside feels dry, and damp rope is where the smell comes from.
When to retire it
When the knots have loosened or the shank has started to unwind. A rope toy at that stage is a length of string, and a length of string is not a toy.
