Living with them
Keep some back
Put four out and keep the rest in a drawer. A cat that sees the same toy every day stops seeing it; the same mouse reintroduced a month later is a new mouse.
When to retire one
Once the sisal unwinds or the feather has been pulled free, take that one out of rotation. Loose rope ends are the part worth watching.
