Caring for Your Château

Thoughtful care for lasting comfort. Everything your Château needs to stay the way it arrived, for years of afternoons.

01 — Know your Château

Three parts. One bed.

Le Château Canin is built as two pieces inside one washable cover. Knowing what goes where makes everything on this page easier.

The ring

The braided outer bolster. Tall enough to lean a head on, and to keep a draft off a sleeping back.

The cushion

A deep foam base that older dogs choose over the sofa. It sits inside the ring and holds its shape night after night.

The cover

A herringbone weave that unzips completely. All of it goes in the machine. Not a panel of it.

02 — The loop

How the cushion stays put.

Inside the ring there is a small button. On the cushion, a fabric loop. Together they hold the cushion in place through every circle-and-settle, and come apart in a second when it is time to wash.

i

Find the two

The button is stitched to the inner wall of the ring. The loop is on the edge of the cushion. Line them up.

ii

Loop over

Slip the loop over the button. Gently. It should sit flat with no pull on the fabric.

iii

To release

Lift the loop back off the button. The cushion comes free of the ring for washing or airing.

If the cushion ever feels loose, this is the first place to look. Nine times out of ten the loop has simply come off the button.

03 — Washing the cover

Cold. Gentle. Flat to dry.

The cover is upholstery-grade. It is meant to be washed, and it will come out looking the way it went in if you follow this.

  1. Release the loopLift the loop off the button and separate the cushion from the ring.
  2. Unzip and removeUnzip each cover and slide the foam out. Shake the covers over a bin to drop any loose hair.
  3. Zip closedClose the zips before they go in the machine. It protects the teeth, and the fabric around them.
  4. Wash coldCold water, gentle cycle, a mild pet-safe detergent. No fabric softener. It coats the weave and stops it breathing. No bleach, ever.
  5. DryLay flat to dry, or tumble on low and remove while still slightly damp. Never high heat.
  6. Dress the bedSlide the foam back in while the cover is cool. Work corners first. Zip, then re-hook the loop.

First wash: run the cover on its own, or with similar colors.

04 — The foam

Never wash the foam.

Water is the one thing the cushion does not want. Everything else is simple.

Always

  • Vacuum the bare foam with an upholstery attachment while the cover is in the wash
  • Let it air for an hour in a bright room. Not direct sun
  • Spot clean with a barely damp cloth, then let it dry fully before dressing
  • Turn the cushion over every few weeks so it wears evenly

Never

  • Submerge, soak, or machine wash the foam
  • Use a steam cleaner on it
  • Dress the bed while the foam is still damp
  • Leave it near a radiator or heating vent

05 — Everyday

A little, often.

Each week

  • A quick pass with a handheld vacuum or lint roller
  • Plump the ring back into shape with both hands
  • Check the loop is still on its button

Placement

  • Out of direct afternoon sun, which fades any fabric over time
  • Away from vents and radiators
  • On a rug or hard floor. Both are fine

Accidents happen. Blot, never rub, with cold water and an enzyme-based pet cleaner. Air dry. If it reached the foam, let the foam dry completely before the cover goes back on.

06 — Common questions

Asked often.

There is a faint scent out of the box. Is that normal.

Yes. New foam and fresh fabric carry a light scent that fades within a couple of days. Unzip the cover and let the bed air in a ventilated room if you would like to speed it along.

Can both covers go in the wash at once.

Yes. Ring cover and cushion cover together, cold and gentle. Just zip them closed first.

The cushion is sliding around in the ring.

Check the loop. It has almost certainly come off its button, usually after a wash or an enthusiastic dig. Slip it back on and the cushion will stay put.

Can I put the foam in the dryer to freshen it.

No. Heat breaks foam down. An hour in a bright, airy room does the same job without the damage.

How long should the cover take to dry.

Laid flat in a warm room, overnight. On low tumble, around forty minutes. Take it out while it still feels cool and slightly damp and the weave will settle smoothly.
